Dj Monsta (a.k.a Monster), in a real name Uldis Cirulis, was born in 1979. on the 29th. of April, in Riga. Since age of 7, he knew, or at least had a feeling that he will become a Dj, when he asked his mother to buy him portable turntable for kids. He became interested in club music in 1991, when in Latvia appeared first independent radio station ‘Radio Dejas’, which was first step to club music in this region. At age of 13, in 1992, he started to work at school radio centre and was in charge of parties. Three years later Dj Monsta joined new and up-to date project “SuperFM” of radio station “RadioDejas”, there was also a dance club. Dj Monsta there worked in a library of sound recordings, prepared broadcast programs, and in the evenings he played in a dance club “SuperFM”. In 1996 appeared his interest about scratching and turntablism, although at that time in Latvia it was impossible to get scratch mixer. At the same time Dj Monsta became into break beat, hip hop, and he still plays this kind of music in clubs. In year 1997 started to play with Latvian hip hop group “Fact”. Year later this group recorded their debut album, with the same name “Fact”, where he took part as a scratch Dj. As a scratch Dj, in year1998.,he was insolved also in acid jazz and funk group “Time After Time” with them took GrandPrix in new group competition “Liepajas Dzintars”. Year later, in a debut album “Time After Time ”of this group, he again took part as a scratch Dj. He has been touring Europe and Russia with these groups. At the end of 1998., he left his job in a radio and completely devoted himself to deejaying. In 2000, he made his dream- to turn seriously to turntablism, to come true, by using first opportunity to acquire himself a scratch mixer. In year 2001 received an invitation from Latvian funster Ufo, to play in his group “Ufogrupa”. Took part in recording groups album “Speka dziesmas” (2005). In 2002. started to play in, now already broken apart group, “Fact” leader MC - Gustavo. Took part as a deejay in his albums “Beidzot” (2004) and „Pa Paris pantiem/Viesibas viesnica” (2006), as well as in R-Viss album „Fokusu Pokusu meklejumos”(2006), which was produced by Gustavo. In 2002, together with famous Latvian scratch Dj AG, Raiti un Krii, founded group of turntablists “Riga Scratch Posse”. In year 2005 “Riga Scratch Posse” as a jury took part in Estonian Dj championship. With this group has made a remix to record “Aka Hip Aka Hop”. In 2003 together with one of the most first-string Latvian bass guitarist Norbert Skraucis, founded group “City Quartet”, which trends to hip hop, acid jazz, r’n’b. In year 2004 took part in Brown Men, Riga Groove Electro jazz records, which were recorded in “Deniss Jazz” company. In 2006 participated as a scratch Dj in a CD „Dava sapni” and a cartoon „Melna kaste”.
